Online Wellness

Mentor Training

Tailoring Options

The Wellness Mentor Training should reflect your organization’s goals and needs. Such tailoring is available without charge to organizations with 30 or more training participants. Tailoring is also available for a fee to organizations with fewer training participants. The revised training content is incorporated into a new training site with a unique Internet address.

We are open to your suggestions for adapting the Wellness Leadership Training to your needs. The following suggestions offer a good starting place for your tailoring efforts.

  1. The training can be revised to develop a lifestyle change buddy system. We call this approach peer coaching or mutual support. This is particularly helpful when two people are chosen for the training because of their lifestyle change needs. So, for example, a health risk appraisal could ask participants if they would like to be assigned a health buddy or peer coach. The two people would then use the training to support each other.
  2. Online discussion groups could be added to foster a dialogue about peer support.
  3. Best practices listings can be added to the website. Completed homework assignments are good sources for best practice examples. Typically, the instructor would identify best practices and add them to lists available on the website or email the best practices to course participants.
  4. The website could specifically reference resources available through your wellness and health promotion program. Participants could learn about the program vision as well as how to access various programs and resources. Participants could also be informed about mental health, crisis management and other professional resources that could supplement peer support efforts.
  5. The discussion of confidentiality could specifically reference corporate policy. For example, it may be the case that there is company policy that the employee assistance program will be contacted when someone reports that they are drinking or using drugs at work. The policy would be discussed in the online training material.
